Maternity

Congrats mom-to-be! Your life is changing in an enormous and wonderful way!

If you’re searching for a maternity photographer in Toronto, the first thing you should think about is what you want your photos to look like. If you’re hoping for maternity gowns, posed setups and studio backdrops, then a studio photographer would probably be a better option for you.

If you’re looking for images that simply capture your story in an ever-so-slightly prettier version of real life, then a lifestyle maternity photographer is what you’re after.

Either way, your pregnancy is such an important and exciting time in your life, it deserves to be documented in a beautiful way.

What’s a Lifestyle Maternity Photoshoot like?

My maternity photoshoots are relaxed and stress free, with a mix of guided natural positioning, along with more unposed candid moments.

I believe that genuine expressions + natural light = beautiful portraits!

Where do maternity sessions take place?

Sessions are held either at your home, which works well if you have a lot of natural light (light coloured walls and a large window are great) or at an outdoor location, weather permitting.

Because I work with natural light, indoor sessions are scheduled in the mornings. Outdoor sessions are scheduled in the late afternoons, a few hours before sunset. In case of rain or if it’s too overcast, we may need to reschedule. I will always leave a few slots available each month in case of bad weather.

When is the best time in pregnancy to book maternity photos?

Maternity Sessions are best taken between 29-35 weeks, depending on how you’re feeling. Your bump should be nice and round at this stage, but not so heavy that you feel overly tired.

Should we also include maternity couple photos? Maternity family photos?

Absolutely!  While the session is mainly focused on the new mom-to-be, your husband and children are always welcome to participate in your maternity photoshoot as well. This is a special time for the whole family!

What to wear to your maternity photoshoot

Your maternity pictures should reflect who you are so it’s important that you dress in an outfit that reflects your personal style. Fitted clothing allows your baby bump to be the star of the shoot but flowy dresses/tops photograph really well too. The only thing I would advise you to avoid is bright neon colours, and black if we’re shooting outdoors

For couple and/or family photos, choose two or three colours that complement each other. -the goal is to coordinate, not match.

You can find more inspiration over on my “What to Wear – maternity” Pinterest board:

The most important thing is to feel comfortable and to wear something you really like yourself in.

When will we receive our photos?

A private online gallery will be emailed to you 2-3 weeks following your session, presenting 40-60 edited images from your shoot. The gallery will remain active for 8 days so that you can select the images you would like to purchase. Your ordered images will be delivered to you in both colour and black and white versions in a high-resolution flash-drive so you may reprint and enlarge to your heart’s content.

Please feel free to have a look at some of my maternity session previews and if my style seems like a good fit for you, I would be really honoured to capture this special time for you. Contact me if you have any questions or if you would like to book.
